This is a select ensemble that is working very hard to develop beautiful singing. We’re doing a lot of solfege (ask about this) and working on honor choir audition material.

As with honor band, choir auditions are coming up. Recordings of each singer will be evaluated by Northern Nevada Zone judges and those who are chosen will participate in honor choir rehearsals and concert. It’s a great honor and a lot of fun to sing with the best singers from northern Nevada. 

We’re also rehearsing Christmas literature, some sacred some secular, all fun to sing.

YIS General Music

This class has been playing lots of classroom instruments including BoomWhackers, Orff instruments, tambourines, drums and baritone ukuleles. It’s something different everyday that requires students to develop basic musical skills such as keeping a steady beat, learning the form of a song, playing the Orff instruments using proper mallet techniques and much more. We’ll do some dance and creative movement as well as composition to round out the musical experience
